Professional Development with Coexist

Through discussion and simulation exercises led by Coexist Learning Director Dr. Mishy Lesser, a six-hour professional development workshop will help educators:

1. Reflect on their personal and professional experiences with “othering”

2. Deepen their understanding of the events leading up to and following genocide in Rwanda

3. Prepare themselves to make the post-genocide experiences of Rwandans relevant to their students

4. Maximize the impact of learning activities found in the Guide

Participants in the workshops will receive a copy of the Coexist DVD, plus an online link to the film and downloadable Teacher’s Guide (available at coexistdocumentary.org/guide)

Fostering Empathy & Engaging in Dialogue

We believe that engaging young people in dialogue via Coexist is the most important part of our project. That’s why we offer a variety of opportunities for students, teachers, organizers, and leaders to view the film and supplementary videos, discuss it using our Teacher’s Guide, and use it as an opportunity for self reflection.

The Teacher’s Guide aims to foster social and emotional skill development in youth viewers so they can explore their own beliefs and feelings about violence, forgiveness, reconciliation, and the importance of dialogue.
